My Digital Toolkit
Document Viewing, Numbering and Redacting
- Adobe Acrobat Pro (Standard not DC) - This is probably the program I use the most on a daily basis. Many documents are produced in a .pdf format, so I need a viewer. This particular version of the program has great tools for bates-stamping, redacting and OCR-ing documents.
- Bookmark Report Action - This action produced a unified report, by document, listing bookmarks in a hierarchical fashion
- EZ Bates - I prefer to use Acrobat Pro for bates-stamping, but sometimes have found this program invaluable, particularly when I wanted to bates stamp AND rename all my files using the bates number range.
- IrfanView with Ghostscript - This is a great document viewer which enables you view all files in a folder by clicking on the "next" button instead of having to open up each file individually. To do this with PDF files, you will also need to install the Ghostscript plugin. While you can use the preview option in windows to navigate through PDFs in this way, IrfanView is much more robust.
File Management
- Bulk Rename Utility - allows you to easily rename files and entire folders based upon extremely flexible criteria.
- Directory List & Print - If you ever want to create a list of documents in a directory, this program is invaluable. I use it all the time to create quick indexes. You can export the list in various file formats and select which fields you'd like to include.
- Print Conductor - If you have a large number of documents to print, you can streamline your workflow using this great program.
Internet
- Print Friendly - If you've ever had trouble printing a webpage in a useable format, give this a try.
File Sharing
- Dropbox - a user-friendly file sharing and collaboration tool.
- Hightail - a secure file transfer service.
